Have I got some good stuff for you.
- Race to the Bottom, Part 1: A Parable (Gin and Tacos) Ed sums up my experiences in both dating and politics.
- Shift on Executive Power lets Obama bypass Rivals (NY Times) ‘Bout damn time.
- The Amnesia Candidate (NY Times) Of course Mitt Romney was going to lie his ass off. The GOP has been lying their asses off for thirty years, and all it’s done is won them elections. They lied their asses off in 2010 too. It’s all they’ve got left.
- Is the Tea Party still relevant? (Washington Post) The Tea Party was relevant for about a hot second when they managed to rally enough Republicans together to get a few crackpots elected to Congress. Now they’re just the far right wing of the Republican Party, and not deserving of all the ink being spilt asking if they’re still relevant.
- NAACP uninvites Allen West from conference because of “Communists” remark. (Huffington Post) *backs away slowly*
- NRA Becomes Toxic When Exposed to Light (Huffington Post) A friend of mine came over on Friday to hang out, and he, myself, and my roommate ended up in the hot tub. Somehow, the 2nd Amendment came up (as three dudes and no ladies in a hot tub requires manly conversation) and he asked me what my thoughts on gun control are. I explained that I believe that American citizens who have not committed a felony and do not have a mental illness have a right to own pistols, shotguns, and rifles, either for self defense or sport hunting. I believe that there is almost no one that believes that all guns should be illegal. I also believe that the NRA has suffered immensely from success, in that everyone agrees with the basic premise that guns should be legal, however not all guns should be legal; no one needs an automatic weapon of any kind, nor anything like a grenade launcher. I think concealed carry is crap; if you’re going to pack heat, you should have to show the world you’re packing heat, unless you’re a member of law enforcement. I don’t think guns should be allowed half the places they are like parks, schools, courts, etc. Just thought I’d share that with everyone.
- Jon Huntsman: “Gone are the days where the Republican Party used to put forward big, bold visionary stuff.” (Mediaite) The GOP hasn’t does this in fifty years, not since Nixon hitched their wagon to the crazies.
- Apparently “Buying a home and attempting to move in while black” is now also a crime. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- NYT Pub Ed: Is Obama Manchurian Candidate? (TPM) Holy fuckbeans. I am ded. Teh stupid, it haz kilt meh. President Obama is the most vetted candidate in the history of the Presidency. There is literally NOTHING we don’t know about the man. No other candidate or official has been subject to the level of scrutiny that he has. As the article states, this is nothing more than a racist dog-whistle, and rightfully deserves scorn for it.
- This week’s cooking tip: An herb crust can turn bullshit into sage advice! (Doghouse Riley) Mitch Daniels was always an illusion. He had a built in electoral advantage in a state where, outside of a few bastions of blue, it is a deep, deep red. And those folks are, almost universally, morons.
- One in two of young college graduates are jobless or unemployed. (Huffington Post)
- The War Against Youth (Esquire) I wanted to take this opportunity to say that all of you that commented negatively on my post from Friday’s Generational War post can kiss my ass. *pbbbt*
- Please to be shutting the piehole now (Charles P. Pierce) Everything is always about Sarah Palin, even when it isn’t.
- On National Pot Day, a speech President Obama should give. (The Atlantic) Someone in the Obama Administration really needs to come to grips with the fact that the drugs won the War on Drugs.
- Is it time to end America’s “war on drugs”? (Al-Jazeera) Of course it is. The drugs won.
- One state where the youth vote really does matter: Colorado (TPM) As the nation gets younger and more brown, more states are going to start looking like Colorado.
- FOX News Fabricates Obama Quote (TPM) Of course they do. They’ve fabricated everything else for years; why stop now?
- GOP Obscures Its Role In Blocking Immigration Reform (TPM) I disagree with the title. The GOP hasn’t “obscured” their role at all. They’re staunchly against it, because they’re racist and xenophobic.
- Chuck Grassley advocates boycott of Coca-Cola. (ThinkProgress) You know, I hope that the Right boycotts all the companies that have dropped ALEC; Coke, Pepsi, Yum! Brands (KFC, Taco Bell, etc.), McDonalds, Kraft, etc. That way, we might be able to take a real swing at the obesity problem prevalent in heavily Republican states.
- Romney has been getting the most favorable coverage from the Media; Obama has been getting the least (Journalism) But the Liberal Media is totally in the tank for Obama!
- Whistleblower reveals widespread bribery by WalMart in Mexico. (ThinkProgress) As an auditor, these kinds of articles grind my gears.
- Iowa GOP Congressional Candidate doubts whether Obama “Loves this country” because of Buffett Rule support (ThinkProgress) This is the same kind of guy that thinks that “loving this country” is best expressed through a bumper sticker.
- Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin to end medication abortions due to new law. (ThinkProgress) Just in case anyone forgot there’s still a Republican War On Women going on.
