Catholic League Slams Those Who Adopt

The Catholic League, the nation’s largest Catholic civil rights organization (according to their website – I haven’t seen a study on this), is a group that “…defends the right of Catholics – lay and clergy alike – to participate in American public life without defamation or discrimination.” Okay. That’s nice. It’s awfully brave of you to stand up for the largest religious group in the United States. It’s inspiring me to form a group to stand up for the rights of meth manufacturers and users in California’s central valley.

Ann Romney is the breeding vessel for wife of Mitt Romney, who is running for some sort of public office.  He also has a lot of money, and questionable dog tending skills. Ann discussed how she accepted the challenges of being a stay at home mom. While nobody questions her mothering skills, a lot of people’s bullshit meters were pegged when a woman who is in a family that is worth hundreds of millions of dollars started talking about how rough she had it.  From her twitter feed:

Hilary Rosen is a political commentator on CNN. She’s a lesbian. Normally, I wouldn’t point this out, but it proves pretty important later on.  She and her ex have two children together, who they adopted.  Hilary posted this tweet last night as a response to Mrs. Romney’s statement:

Apparently because that statement infringed on the First Amendment rights of a Catholic who isn’t even Catholic, but Mormon, the Catholic League sprang into action. They tweeted this:

Yup.  That’s what that twitter account said. They also posted this little gem:

This doesn’t really have anything to do with the story, I’m just glad someone is finally taking a stance on those bastards who are willing to cut their dicks off to get a college scholarship.  If you’re calling “Bullshit” right now like I did after I saw that tweet, go to the Catholic League’s website and click on their twitter link. It’s this feed. It’s either been hacked, or they’re this much of an asshole.

I’ve always heard adoption being touted as the alternative to abortion, which the Catholic church isn’t too happy about. But now, if you decide to take an orphan into your life, you’re less of a parent than those who shoot the kid out of their own cooter. According to the Catholic League, John and Cindy McCain are more parents to Meghan than to Bridget, whom they adopted from an orphanage run by Mother Theresa. In fact, if Bridget were their only child, their status as parents would be less than the status of Casey Anthony was, at least when she was a mother.

There’s been a bit of a dustup about this on twitter, including condemnation from my favorite Catholic fictional President, Jed Bartlet. People have started contacting the Catholic League’s twitter account, and they offered this as an apology:

There you go.
