Is Stephen Glass too Immoral to Be a Lawyer?

On Tuesday Stephen Glass filed papers (PDF) with the California Supreme Court to appeal a California Bar Association decision that he was morally unfit to practice law in California due to his inability to be a moral journalist.

Glass says that he is remorseful, attends regular therapy sessions and has been a clerk at a Beverly Hills firm since 2004 without fabricating anything at all. Glass first applied to the California Bar after passing his exam in 2007 and has been fighting the Bar Association ever since.

The Bar Association points out that Glass has failed to use any of the proceeds from his book The Fabulist to help those his previous lies had hurt and that they don’t believe he is truly remorseful.

Once a person has been nationally denounced as one of the worst people in a given profession can that person expect to go over to another profession and be greeted with open arms?
