Who is the Actress Suing Amazon?

The news wires have a nifty little story  this morning about an actress who has decided that the fact that she isn’t getting the types of roles she would like is the fault of deep pocketed internet retailer Amazon.com.

How?

As luck would have it, Amazon is the owner of the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the worlds greatest entertainment-trivia-argument-solver. Said actress has filed a suit under the name ‘Jane Doe’, claiming, among other things, that when she signed up for IMDbPro in 2008, her date of birth was revealed. According to the suit, as ‘lesser-known forty-year-old actresses are not in demand in the entertainment business, plaintiff has suffered a substantial decrease in acting credits, employment opportunities and earnings’.

The suit then goes on to state ‘Second, because plaintiff looks so much younger than her actual age indicates, plaintiff has experienced rejection in the industry for each ‘forty-year-old’ role for which she has interviewed.’

Based on that statement alone, this woman and her lawyers can try as hard as they like, but it seems unlikely to me, the untrained legal observer, for her to prove her case without showing who she is.

Why should we wait for that though? It’s much more fun to hypothesize about who this woman might be right now.

The clues the article gives us:

  • The actress, who is of Asian descent, changed her name to make it more American
  • The actress lives in Texas
  • Apparently, she’s nearly 40 years old, but looks much younger
