Music Makes These 10 Movie Scenes Great

Here’s a list of movie scenes that are made great by the music to which they are set. I didn’t delve into the performances of songs in movies which is definitely going to be another list. Also, sorry if I didn’t include your favorite but there were definitely enough to make a second list. Without furthur ado, here is the not-so-definitive list.

1.   THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS – “These Days” by Nico

Yes, this is the scene from the Royal Tenenbaums. I know EVERYONE and their hipster moms love this film but I really do like this scene. Goop may be annoying to most people but boy is she good at walking to music in slow motion and for that I like her.

2. DONNIE DARKO – “Head Over Heels” by Tears for Fears

Donnie Darko  has a pretty good soundtrack with music from Echo & The Bunnymen, Joy Division, Duran Duran, etc but this one wins. That is all.

3. THE VIRGIN SUICIDES – “Magic Man” by Heart

What a killer character intro.

4. GOODFELLAS – “Then He Kissed Me” by The Crystals

This scene is just all around great. There’s the long steady cam shot, the great timing and the music which ,in my opinion,  definitely the best scene in the film. It even makes Henry Hill and his annoying smugness almost bearable.

The Copacabana Scene

5. RESERVOIR DOGS – “Stuck in the Middle With You” by Stealer’s Wheel

I guess if I got my ear cut off this song would make it okay…until I couldn’t hear it anymore.

6. AMERICAN PSYCHO – “Hip To Be Square” by Huey Lewis & The News

I can’t believe that Christian Bale didn’t win an Oscar before “The Fighter”. Lame.

7. REALITY BITES – “My Sharona” by The Knack

Boy, they weren’t kidding with that title. Also, I wish people would stop shunning Winona Ryder.

8. DAREDEVIL – “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence

Just kidding….

8. PULP FICTION – “Son of A Preacher Man” by Dusty Springfield

Disco. Yes, another Quentin Tarantino movie but hey he can pick a good soundtrack. Even if he does like his toes sucked.

9.  FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF – “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles

I do this one at karaoke, regularly, and channel Ferris as best I can.

10. GOOD MORNING VIETNAM – “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong

What say you, Crassholes?
